Having the time of your life.... Or are you just stuck?
We were so stuck last week.
The place felt as though we were wading through treacle… and when that happens, nothing happens!
The pots didn’t make it into the dishwasher, bags were dumped in the hall, trash mounted up by the bin. It was so unlike us.
We were listless, grouchy, overwhelmed and couldn’t understand why.
We had picked up on the energy of our home and it was reflecting back in our lives.
“We need a day out” said my joy and delight. Yes! A day together away from home to get some new perspective was a great idea.
So we went to Chafor Vineyard and sat in the sun imagining the grape harvest in Turkey or Tuscany as mini-me tasted her way through the white, the pink and the fizz… and I gripped my car keys, shut my eyes and indulged in the Vitamin D.
Afterwards we walked through the forest and meadows close to home. We created a bigger picture by talking things through and bouncing ideas around…
Arriving home we knew Sunday would be a day of change. Of shifting, clearing, relocating and parting with the things which had us glued in an outdated perspective.
This wasn’t about cleaning or dusting. Instead every cupboard, each drawer and shelf was reviewed and sorted.
The little jobs which needed doing were done, most taking only a minute of two.
Anything surplus to our lifestyle went.
Any reminders of people or situations which were no longer chiming with us – gone!
The remainder was organized in a way which made more sense. It was streamlined and purposeful.
Along the way we seem to have created a couple of extra square metres of kitchen space and switched the seasonal wardrobes over – disposing of many clothes which no longer suit our ‘new normal’ way of life.
And the outcome?
A full twelve hours of glorious uninterrupted, deeply relaxing sleep.
An influx of new connections, requests to feature on podcasts and collaborate with an expert in an associated field.
A financial burden lifted, invoices paid and smiles all round. We’re suddenly surrounded by helpful people.
A home is a reflection of what’s going on in your life. It’s often telling a story of drama or disaster rathern than the happy picture you want for yourself.
We had let our stuff build up since lockdown and by not ‘needing’ to deal with it, we had unwittingly sunk into the aforementioned vat of treacle and life had got unnecessarily sticky.
The thing is, unless you’re actually tuned in; watching and listening to the story your home tells, how will you know what to do about it?
If you don’t take action, you’ll be stuck in goo, wondering why nothing goes quite right… just like a disaster movie on repeat.
This day IS the time of your life. It’s for you to choose to pay attention and allow your home to support you to the life you want for yourself.
